At a Loss – Severe Abdominal Pain and No Answers

Posted by hgarm @hgarm, Jan 21, 2019

It has been a very rough month. I started having severe pain in my upper abdomen a week before Christmas. 2 days before Christmas I had my appendix removed and then 3 weeks later my gallbladder removed (they believed this to be the cause of all of my pain) ever since I have been having severe stomach pains that ate worse then the pains I started with. I have lost almost 22 pounds in a month due to the inability to eat and I feel as though I am wasting away. I am feeling so hopeless and so depressed and I just don't know what to do anymore because doctor's seem to be at a loss while my pain just keeps growing. I have never felt this down before and I don't know what to do about it

@hgarm

I live in a rural area so it's about a half hour to the nearest ER which is connected to a hospital. I have been to the ER 4 times in the past month 2 of those times they took out an organ and the other two times they just sent me home saying there was nothing emergent about me.
I don't know what else I can do because non of the doctors seem to care and my medical bills ate just growing because my insurance charges 300 per ER visit. Plus the hospitalizations.
I am only 28 so I don't think I qualify for Medicare or Medicaid

In Ohio, for one person it used to about 1100 month for one person to get Medicaid. Plus some food help. Medicare is for over 65. But you should check it out because each state is different. In my opinion, the west side of Ohio has the best doctors and the north side of Ohio hospitals are not the best. Where you live makes a big difference for your health care from doctors. I wish doctors would stand up to the insurance companies. They deserve much better respect. I had a surgeon who was Excellent in surgery but had the worst bedside manners ever. He told me the doctors I had butchered me badly but he would never tell it. He was very honest to me. God wasn't finished with me yet!!!! Now we have attorneys in commercials suing doctors all the time. It is disgraceful. Just think about it -Doctors were taught to save a life- Now they are forced to late-term abortions were they have to clasped the head of an infant- Suction it out body part by body part to make sure the patients don't become septic and die from leftover baby parts. Hell, some still grew inside of them and lived as Disabled. Doctors deserve better treatment themselves. Just my opinion. They should too! Check out your choices with insurance programs

@catcatanzaro60 You Re so right it's the same in PA @,CA maybe all over the insurances have it over the Dr,s Health plans say they pick the best Dr,s but I can't get s rheumatologist here the one I had left her practice and she,s not the only one Dr,s have gone next to other states to practice because of insurance

I hope I did not hurt anyone that had the first abortion. You may not have known what you were doing. So please turn it over to God. Some people use it as Birth Control. I think the Insurance is gonna stop people with nowhere to go from coming to Emergency rooms by telling the Doctors they will not pay for certain things. Of course, this will lead to lies and possible death. Just my opinion. I used to have Medicaid. It was wonderful but hate to learn that the middle-class people paid for it. Middle -class pay for everything The rich need to start caring about the rest of us. Some of them learned about us when the stocks hit bottom. They were in worse shape than us because we have more experience in that field. ? We all need each other. I hope every one of us on this site will vote as we are all needed to Do It is our right!!! I did not know that the Congress got special pay raises anytime. special retirement special health insurance I wish I would have made a little difference somehow. Thanks for listening. Keep looking for better solutions for the American people like us.

Key is finding one. I am endeavoring to get a referral to an ortho doctor. wish me luck! If it is not the primary care doc's idea seems I get nowhere. a pain specialist seems worthless at this point. He has no suggestions other than doing neck exercises. SCREAM!!!!!

I took Tramadol 50 mg. I think that can still be prescribed but who knows now. I was dependent on it, but never had to increase the amount I took. It worked well for my pain. Check with your physician about it. Good luck Parus.

Nope. They aren't prescribing any controlled substances. I am hoping for a referral to get X-Rays. I guess I don't look like I am in pain. A pain level of 5 is a good day for me. There are times when frustration can become a motivator. They always ask when I see a therapist again. Narrow-minded..........GRRRRRRR.

@parus My Dr. prescribes Tramadol 50 for me doesn't have any problems They did require the Dr. to fax it at first but now she just calls it in. In face I called the other day for a renewal and they filled it. Now it maybe since I fractured my back I have been on it I only take 1 or 2 depending on how I fell . Have you asked your Dr. about this? Dr. also knows I have fibro and O.A. Tell the Dr. about your pain and why you have it with your problems don't just tell her about your depression/anxiety problem this a separate thing.

So frustrating as I do not even have a history of substance abuse. This is only punishment for the honest people as the abusers get it still. All we can do is keep trying. I don't want lots of drugs. Taking an antidepressant is suggested. GEESH! The pain specialist knows all of this. Thankful for the one hydrcodone 5 a day if I get another refill on it.

@merpreb The PCP in this medical group no longer prescribe controlled substances. I do have the Gabapentin which I take when the fibromyalgia stuff becomes too uncomfortable. I don’t like taking it very often as it can make me wiggy if taken regularly. It had me messed up at one time. I asked for a lower dose and this helped. Are there any other pain meds that are not narcotics??

@parus- Some of us have suggested stronger NSAIDS. They do need prescriptions however. Check them out. Some are very very good.
