An article from 2019 by the Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), discusses the importance of an adequate diet and a healthy lifestyle on the ocular health. The article Nutrition and Eye Health, analyzes 12 articles that talk about the important role of nutrition to prevent ocular disease, "Diet is a key lifestyle factor that can have long-term effects on ocular health...The eye is particularly susceptible to oxidative stress as a result of its high oxygen consumption, high concentration of polyunsaturated fatty acids and cumulative exposure to high-energy visible light. This combination of factors leads to the generation of reactive oxygen species that can trigger oxidative damage to ocular tissues."
