Patients dealing with Post COVID Syndrome often are often told their symptoms are due to depression or anxiety. This is incredibly frustrating for patients, and for our team as well. Even in this early stage, research has shown that Post COVID Syndrome effects numerous organs and activities in our bodies.  This condition is not just in your head.

Unfortunately, this quick diagnosis results in patients being hesitant to discuss their mood with providers. It is important to remember that the mind and body work as one. Our studies show that COVID-19 infection can lead to a very traumatic experience. While it is important to take care of physical problems in Post COVID Syndrome, you should also get care for any depression, anxiety, or even PTSD that may be occurring. It is possible to have both a mental health and physical condition at the same time, and both need care.

If you are having a hard time coping with your symptoms and change in life, please let your provider know.

Also, if you are desperate and losing hope, please seek immediate help, either with your provider, a local urgent care, an emergency department, or by calling 911. You may also call or text 988 the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

You're not alone. Connect with other long-haulers talking about living with long-term symptoms, and supporting one another in the online Post-COVID support group.
