Since many of our program's volunteers are veterans, we wanted to share information about an upcoming military event at Mayo Clinic. The Center of Military Medicine will be hosting a free daylong event on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, in Phillips Hall to showcase Mayo Clinic’s military legacy in practice, research and education. Volunteers are welcome to attend.

Mayo Clinic employs close to 1,500 military members and veterans of the five branches of the United States Armed Forces. The program content will illustrate the contributions Mayo Clinic has made relevant to military medicine. The event will highlight Mayo Clinic’s work in aerospace medicine, research, technology, and our partnership in using simulation tools and other means to educate military service members.

Highlights include:

  • Matthew D. Dacy, Director of Heritage Hall will share Mayo Clinic’s legacy of Military Medicine, dating back to World War I (1864).
  • Walter B. Franz, III, M.D., MERG Veterans, Co-Chair, Family Medicine physician, will talk on innovative techniques to stop bleeding.
  • Kenton R. Kaufman, Ph.D., Professor of Biomedical Engineering, will discuss techniques to improve fall prevention for patients with lower extremity trauma.
  • Christopher (Kit) Dominguez, P.A., MAJ (retired)  Army Special Operations will share information on military working dogs and how they are re-purposed through the VA and charity organizations. He will also be bringing his re-purposed military dog (Zoey) for the presentation.

This is a free internal event for Mayo Clinic employees and volunteers. You may register online which helps gauge attendance; however, registration is not required. The agenda for this event is also accessible online.
