Happy almost Fall! Here in Jacksonville it doesn't feel like fall at all, but I can look forward to cooler temperatures soon, right?
Well, that aside, I had a conversation about driving with a patient and his wife just today, and it is a common point of discussion. So, I thought it would be a good time to revisit this on the blog as well. Enjoy!
What's a Driving Evaluation and Why Should I Take One?
Thank you @drmelaniechandler - My husband was diagnosed with MCI in 2015 and went through the HABIT program in 2016. One thing we learned in HABIT was that the three biggest issues are: driving, medications & finances. At this point, I have given him his meds and managed the finances for awhile. He hasn't driven in a long time, but this last weekend, he gave his truck to his son and gave up his driver's license. We got him a state-issued ID. This was his decision and it was just heart-wrenching for him and me, but I was glad he came to the decision on his own. It's a real milestone in the journey of dementia.
