New Volunteer: Marie Aaberg

Oct 28, 2022 | Sarah Palmer | @sarahpalmer

I'm so excited to introduce my predecessor in the role of Methodist Campus Volunteers Manager, Marie Aaberg, as one of our newest Mayo Clinic volunteers! In her retirement, Marie will be pioneering our new resident companion service area at Charter House, where she will be visiting with residents of the supportive living unit.

Q: Are you originally from the Rochester area? If not, where else have you lived?
A: I've lived in both Iowa and Minnesota. Prior to moving to Rochester, I lived in Mankato, MN.

Q: When you aren't volunteering, what else do you like to do?
A: I like spending time with family and friends, traveling, photography, biking, snowshoeing, and baking. I also enjoy DIY projects in my home and yard.

Q: What three items would you take with you to a deserted island?
A: A survival guide, solar-powered equipment, and a return ticket home

Q: What is your proudest accomplishment?
A: I feel very blessed to have had two careers I dearly loved. I was an elementary school teacher for 26 years. After that, I was a Mayo Clinic Volunteer Programs manager in Rochester for 16.5 years.

Q: What is your favorite thing about Mayo Clinic?
A: My favorite thing about Mayo Clinic is their primary value, "The needs of the patient come first." As volunteers, there are so many ways we can contribute to that!

Welcome back, Marie!
