Y-90 liver cancer treatment: What's your experience?

Posted by mudshark @mudshark, Dec 8, 2019

I recently was treated with y-90 on a tumor in my liver. I am interested in knowing of others that have had experiences good, or bad, and of long term results. I have had prior resection of the liver to remove a tumor but a new tumor surfaced in a different section. I am hoping the y-90 will prove to be a more permanent solution. Thanks

@nana120 Do you recall what the oral med is called? I am curious. I also learned that I have or had GERD. Great attitude on choosing the positive side. I personally believe being positive really helps.

@tomrennie I don’t know the name of the med he was considering, but will find out at our next telemed.

@tomrennie Sometimes it worries me, but I try to just live my life & not focus on my NET. I do know that he was considering a newly FDA approved oral med, but I was recently diagnosed with GERD & IBS and he said it would do a number on my GI! No oral meds is the positive side I’m choosing to focus on

@fontanhccmom, I'm sure you are worried about your son. It sounds like he is dealing with unresolved pain while in cancer treatment. Most cancer center have pain specialists, often they are in the palliative care department.

Is he able to get a referral to a cancer pain specialist or palliative care physician?

@colleenyoung had a palliative care appointment at previous center which was not helpful. Will ask here at Mayo when we get to see some of the new providers.

@nana120 How do you feel about the "sit on it" theory?

My Y90 was done January 2025 and continued CT scans show it slowly seeming to dissolve. However, two more new ones have shown up now, but they are too small to treat at this time. My NET specialist is continues to do a “sit on it” theory with CT scans every 3-4 months.

@tomrennie no I had no other treatment I’m looking at a transplant next but I have time next scans are in June

@ljay That is great. Hopefully, no other treatment is needed. What were you originally diagnosed with that required the Y90 treatment? Have you discussed a transplant with your doctor if further treatment is necessary?

@ljay That is awesome. I am happy for you. Did you have any other treatment prior to the Y90? What is the game plan moving forward?

@digibson I had the y90 treatment in Dec. I just had my 3month mri and the tumor is gone! Y90 worked and I had very little pain or side effects with it good luck
