X-Ray after posterior 3 level cervical fusion mentions’bony ankylosis’

Posted by ga29 @ga29, 5 days ago

Can anyone explain why this comment is in my 12 week followup Xray report, ‘bony ankylosis’ has formed from C4-C7, the 3 levels I had surgery on. First in July as an acdf, them 8 weeks later they were removed and a posterior fusion was done because of a loose screw. I am hoping it means my bones are fusing, not that I’ve developed an autoimmune disorder related to ankylosing spondylosis.
Please help!

hi, ga29. Congratulations on a successful surgery. Bony ankylosis means that the bones have fused as the surgery intended. I hope you are having an easy recovery.

@gently thank you so much, the dangers of the internet and doing a word search brought me so much worry. Yes, it’s been a hard recovery, the posterior fusion causes a lot more pain than the acdf, but PT is helping me loosen up my neck again. I appreciate this forum for helping me through my many struggles, with so many people willing to share their experiences and thoughts!
