Would these precautions prevent me from catching a respiratory virus?

I'm just wondering if my parents have a virus (my mom started showing symptoms almost 2 weeks ago, and my dad started showing symptoms last weekend), if their child (who is me) stayed on a separate floor for most of the time, only coming downstairs for snacks, because I don't have food in my bedroom, but wearing a mask when going downstairs, and leaving the mask on for 30 minutes before removing it (to give the infectionous droplets time to settle), how likely would I be to get sick? I don't come down unless they come up or go out. My mom wears a mask when she needs to go upstairs. I have a respiratory condition, so I gets viruses badly, that's why I'm taking extensive measures. But how likely will it work? I know nothing is 100% foolproof, but generally? I personally think these are personally solid measures, but want to hear more opinions. We have a radiator system, so the germs don't circulate like HVAC.

I'm also strict about hand washing.
Also, when would I most likely develop symptoms if I caught it?

I would suggest also wiping any surfaces that are touch points with disinfectant. When my son and husband had COVID, I did most of the same measures that you are discussing with the added wiping down of door knobs and things in the one bathroom that has a shower. Otherwise we used separate bathrooms. I would cook and drop off the food at their bedroom doorway (my husband has a separate bedroom) and run away making sure to wear a mask when on going upstairs. I would also pick up their dishes to be washed in a similar manner. I was lucky not to get it the first time that they did, but did the second time after my transplant (We all had it prior to my transplant).

I think that you’re doing pretty good with trying to avoid getting sick, I’m also very worried about catching any virus especially the respiratory viruses. There’s too much information out there about these bugs and how long they can survive on surfaces or in the air, ultimately we can only hope to avoid them. I always wash my hands every time I come home and disinfect everything with Lysol cleaners, I really stick to wearing a mask when I’m in public places but not outdoors, I caught two viruses in the past few years and on both occasions I took my mask off.. I know people hate masks but I really believe they are a good defence, good luck with staying safe.

I agree that well fitting masks that have good filtering capabilities can be a great defense against germs. I wear them indoors except while dining/drinking and especially at all times during transit (at airport, on planes, in vehicles either strangers).

The key for us was finding masks that are very protective and comfortable enough to wear for extended time periods. I like family-masks.com ultra masks that are highly rated for protectiveness abc breathability AND protectiveness by “masknerd” engineer Aaron Collins.

Thank you so much!! I agree that there is too much information about bugs, with some websites saying particles last in the air only 10-15 minutes, but some websites say hours!! It's hard to know what to be believe!!

Also, the precautions I'm taking are the same ones I took when my mom was sick a few months ago, and they worked last time, so fingers crossed they work again!! It's trickier this time with both my mom and dad sick, but still hoping for the best!!

Also, I think if I was exposed to the virus, I might've showed symptoms by now? My mom has been sick for 2 weeks and my dad has been sick for 1 week. I know it depends on the virus, etc, but generally with the typical incubation period being about 2-7 days for viruses, there's a good chance I would've showed symptoms by now if I were to get sick?

Again, thank you so much for your comment!!

We can all only do the best we can to avoid being sick. If it’s not too cold where you are, fresh air can also help, if you can open a window or two.

I just placed reorder of masks. We use them, especially when traveling and our daughter uses them and will be having surgery later this year.
