Why shouldn't I take Prolia?

I just readd that Prolia should not be prescribed as the first choice for osteoporosis treatment but no reason is given & I haven't been able to find anything by researching. Please advise!

I have been on Prolia for four years and it is working. I've recently experienced some off and on jaw pain, but with specialized xrays my dentist assured me that all is well. Any bone building drug has similar possible side effects. I will transition off Prolia with Zometa at the end of the year. I'm being treated at a comprehensive cancer center, so I trust their choice of Prolia. I don't know where all of the negativity comes from. Googling it I find a lot comes from individuals like those here on Connect. The decision is up to you, but keep in mind that many of the people on Connect are here because they are looking for help with their personal issues (that includes me). What you rarely or never see are all of the people with the same medical issues doing the same treatments taking the same drugs who have zero problems. Trust me, they're out there and you could be one of them. Compare it to reading reviews on Amazon. If you see a product with no negative reviews, it only means there are too few reviews to be significant. Ask questions, do your research and make an educated decision. We all are different and our bodies will react differently.

Prolia can weaken the immune system. My doctor wanted to prescribe it after Forteo but I declined due to the fact that I have autoimmune issues and didn't want to further mess with an already wonky immune system. He had not thought about that concern as a possible contraindication as doctors rarely look at the whole person, just their particular specialty. He agreed that it might not be the best choice for me and approved my request to go on HRT as a follow up to Forteo.
