Why no telehealth? When is telehealth possible for care?

Posted by bsi15 @bsi15, May 8 2:18am

why no telehealth ?

reading here, most people who are seeking for professional medical advice
are avtually physically moving towards the doctor's locations,
making an "appointment".

Does it make sense ? Can't you get advice by telephone, internet, email, letters ?

Is that not being offered by doctors ?
financially not attractive for doctors ?
I want to understand this.

It's even worse here in Germany, which is low on "telehealth" .
It's better maybe in India, after what I've read.

Why do you even say "see" a doctor in English ?
Why is this group called "visiting Mayo Clinic" ?
I remember, that I once saw Mayo accepted foreign patients
for minium $700, while Cleveland clinic required $2500.
But I can't refind it now.

I need my computer eith the data to meaningfully discuss with a doctor.
I need time to read and understand the doctor messages,
formulate my questions in emails or forum posts.
With data and links. As in this forum.

is there a list of international telehealth providers
including specialists, who accept patients from USA or other Countries ?

Is there an online agency or organisation whose business is to coordinates
doctors and patients ,worldwide via telehealth , finding each other ?

most reviews that you find e.g. at google.scholar are positive on telehealth and recommend it.

@bsi15, Mayo Clinic welcomes both new and existing patients for virtual care in adherence with federal and state licensing regulations. Virtual care is available for out-of-state and out-of-country patients IF the provider you are seeing is licensed in the state or country where you live.

Video and phone visits can be great options for appointments before, after or in place of face-to-face care. Appointment coordinators will recommend a virtual visit if it best fits your individual needs.

You can submit an online request to schedule a meeting with an appointment coordinator to learn more and what might work for you: http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63

Another virtual option offered by Mayo Clinic is:
- Advanced Care at Home https://www.mayoclinic.org/departments-centers/hospital-at-home/sections/overview/ovc-20551797
"Mayo Clinic Advanced Care at Home is an innovative hospital-at-home program offering acute-level, inpatient-quality care to people in the comfort of their own homes. Health and safety are at the center of our care. The care combines both virtual and in-home services to meet each person's needs."

I had a video "vislt" from an anesthesiologist pre-surgery. Also a post-op followup call from the surgeon. No medical advice was offered tho. Also have phone calls all the time regarding my research participation.

I would think that a how are you doing followup call would be a lot less hassle than a visit which sometimes leaves you wondering why was I here.

I so wish Mayo had telehealth. I'm in the USA, but live thousands of miles away from Mayo.

Hi @hdwoman, Mayo Clinic welcomes both new and existing patients for virtual care. Please see this comment posted earlier in this discussion: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/comment/1299555/

Another option for you would be the possibility of an appointment with a Mayo Clinic Care Network participant. Mayo partners with certain clinics and medical facilities around the US and globally which meet their care standards.
Here’s a link to the website with a map to show the affiliated members.

Take a look at the care coverage map in the post. Are you near any of the clinics or hospitals listed?
