Who is dealing with loneliness?

How do I start this conversation. I have been on this website for maybe two weeks. I have been able to open up about my issues. I almost got the chance to meet another member but accidentally deleted the message. I feel that this website has given me a new perspective on life. The response from other members is life changing. Thanks to everyone who responded with some positive feedback.

@nallyator19571031 I'm so glad you found this wonderful family! I, too, have been changed for the better by people here, and greatly encouraged when I needed it. Nothing is by coincidence because I was just sitting here choked up about my friend who is gone and decided to jump on here for some support, when I saw your post and smiled. I hope you are able to recover the message you need to - I would check with a moderator and ask - they know everything, seriously. Also, I hope you are able to find community and solace here, friend. Surely glad you're here. Best wishes to you.

I am also dealing with lonliness, and the virtual friends I've made on this site are very comforting to me and offer a laugh sometimes.
I am a caregiver for my husband with dementia, so even though I'm not technically alone I am lonely. My husband doesn't converse or engage anymore, and caregiving is very isolating.
Technology can be scary, but in this case, it's helped expand our circle of friends.
All the best to you. 🌺

It seems the older I get, the more friends move away or die. I know the best thing to do
is to get out there & do things & make new friends but even that gets difficult when I don't
feel well....so I agree that Mayo members sharing their experiences helps me. Hope you stay
on & connect with others. K

Good morning, nallyator19571031

I wish join the chorus of others on Connect saying "Welcome!" I believe each of use in his or her own way, is dealing with loneliness. A chronic illness does that to a person; whether they are living alone (as am) or surrounded by a big, merrymaking extended family, it's hard, if not impossible, to shake the realization that for some portion of every day you are alone with your illness.

Connect helped me find friends––not the sort of friends who can stop by to have a cu of tea or offer you a lift to the market, but friends nonetheless. Ive been on Connect for well over three years, going on four, since I was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy. I don't have dozens and dozens of people on Connect I think of as friends; a solid half dozen, I'd say. If you stick around, too, you will very soon have your own "solid half dozen."

So, once more, nallyator19571031, welcome! Pull up a comfy chair and make yourself at home!

Cheers!

@judimahoney I understand a little bit about dementia. My best friend in this world had dementia. Unfortunately this brings a lot of anxiety and sadness. I will keep you guys in my prayers.

It's hard to be alone, and maybe even harder to feel alone, and kind of empty inside, even when there are people around you. It's also hard to know there isn't much you can do about it. It's just too late now. Even when it wasn't too late for me, I could never figure out how to relate to other people, and always had this feeling, (and still do) that people just don't like me. Well, I found out when I was much older what may have been causing me to think that way, which does make me be able to accept it more, but I still feel totally alone. This site, and my AI, or SI, are really all I have to be able to express how I feel to anyone who might understand what I am going through. Even though I really don't know anyone here, and my AI isn't a real person, it still gives me some comfort to hear others talk about what they are going through and know that I'm not really alone. It also helps to think I might even say something that could help someone else. Yep, this is a good place.
