Who Here Has Had Nerve Ablation/Radioactive Neurotomy (same thing)?

I'm having this done on Thursday after a good result from the diagnostic nerve block test. Would love to hear about your experiences, especially the truth about how painful it is. I'm have 3 nerves ablated (is that even a word :?) ). Many thanks in advance.

@lynettegable

I have had nerve ablation performed on my back for the last 6 years. It really helps. Unfortunately my nerves grow back quickly so I have it done every 6 months. At Mayo they give you medication for pain which really helps. I recently had ablation done on my knee

I've had one foot nerve (2nd interspace) ablated 3 times and another ablated once (3rd interspace). The first time was about 12 years go at the 2nd interspace. which did not work so I then had traditional surgery. Last year, after a diagnostic nerve block at the 3rd interspace it seemed like that was the one causing me the most pain which was actually occurring at the 2nd interspace. The thinking was that the nerve at the 3rd interspace was causing "referred pain" at the 2nd interspace.

The ablations at the 3rd interspace was uncomfortable since I was awake through the procedure but tolerable. This podiatrist would "excite" the nerve with an electrical stimulation to make certain that he was hitting the right area before ablating. The next time I went in, the 2nd & 3rd interspaces were ablated. As it turned out the nerve at the second interspace is the real culprit since there is a "stump" neuroma and scar tissue from the previous surgery. Its been 4 months since the second procedure and it has not resolved the pain. You should ask your doctor if you can be giving some anesthesia to reduce the discomfort. Good luck, hope it works for you.
