I live 6 miles from Mayo in Jac. But we started with UF Shands for the whipple surgery. That doctor recommended our current oncologist. He is scheduled for another biopsy on his liver to determine the DNA and hopefully get into clinical trials.
Mayo-Rochester is an amazing facility. After I was diagnosed, I contacted them and they had me set with an appt to see a pancreatic oncologist within 2 weeks.
Has anyone had experience with mayo jacksonville for pancreatic cancer? Currently my husband is with NF cancer specialists. Whipple was not successful. 3 rounds of chemo did not shrink tumor. May look for 2 nd opinion.
I might also recommend Moffett first is in your area. They are administering clinical trials as well as treating which can be a very good thing. Often oncologists know the correct “recipes” for our body weight and standard of care, but don’t have a window into other options on the table. I believe Moffett is also a P Center of Excellence.

My wife, 65, was diagnosed Nov 2024 PADC, Stage 4, tail-based.
She has now completed 11 sessions of the standard Folfirinox chemo treatment, to which she has responded well.
We are in West Palm Beach, Florida, with clinical/chemo treatments locally, very convenient. And secondary support from Sylvester Cancer Center, Univ Of Miami / Baptist Health (MSK) Miami, and Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa. After a rest from chemo in a few months, there is a chance she can start a week of hi dosage radiation, also at Univ of Miami. We had a Televisit with MSK NY, Dr Khalil, very good.
The surgery was not successful. When they opened him to do the whipple they discovered a hidden mass wrapped around his arteries. We are 3 months into chemo. Last scan the tumor had not shrank and he had 2 lesions on liver.

Can you please elaborate on getting your treatment at a local hospital,…were they prescribed by Mayo Ocologists? If yes, help us understand what the differences were? How close are you to Rochester?
I had my whipple surgery at Mayo in Arizona. They take medicare but not medicare advantage. When I had my surgery, I was on medicare. My husband's insurance switched us to advantage. Mayo will continue to see me, but only for pancreatic cancer since they started with me. I believe the other Mayo Clinics take the advantage medicare.

Did you do chemo after the surgery? Is it not working anymore?

Thanks. He has biopsy scheduled this week to get DNA of liver cells. I’ll research this agency.

Unfortunately the Mayo Rochester Clinic does not take Medicare Advantage (Part C). But they do take Medicare Supplement (Part F or G).
