Where do people like living best with Bronchiectasis?

I live in Maine and the cold flares my Bronchiectasis lung disease often but I’m great in the summer time. Very curious if people do better with this condition in warmer climates down south?

No! The humidity in the south is a killer for my breathing. Winters are great but summers unbearable.

@jhills I am fortunate to have the best of both worlds - summer in Minnesota, and winters in arid far south Texas.

In addition to bronchiectasis and asthma, I have rheumatoid arthritis and a hyperactive inflammatory reaction to many things, so cold and damp cold are my worst nightmares. I thrive in the moderate fall/winter/spring climate in Texas, but am not a fan of dozens of consecutive 100F+ days, so we return north by May.

Greatly appreciated! This helps me more than you know as we are thinking about making a serious move in the next year for better health for me.

I did winter in Yuma last year and dry and warm was great

I live in dry and this year winter is warm in Colorado. In the summer just step in the shade and the temperature drops. And it is pretty to boot

After years of visiting the Monterey, CA area we moved here at the end of the year. We lived in the Sacramento area where summers are extremely hot and air quality poor. I always felt better in ocean air and cool temperatures. So far the move has been more than I hoped for. I feel I have gotten my life back...walking all the time and able to be outdoors. My energy level is drastically improved and I don't feel like I'm sick. Still symptoms but so improved.

@jhills Like @sueinmn I too have the best of both worlds. Spring, Summer, Fall in Minnesota and Winter in either Naples or Palm Beach, FL. Humidity and heat are lower in Florida in the winter, and I get to run outdoors here in FL versus indoors on treadmill during MN winter-boring. My family is originally from San Antonio, TX and I visit often so I second Sue's arid Texas suggestion as well as anywhere in AZ. BUT "oh heck no!" for either during the summer! Maine is so beautiful and I hope you find somewhere that you too can feel like you've been given a renewed chance of breathing full deep breaths. Terri

You might want to consider avoiding areas of the country that have higher levels of MAC risk, because bronchiectasis puts you at higher risk of this infection. (Also, if you're considering a house, well water might be safer than city water.)

@sueinmn Sue are you near the water in Texas or more inland?

I am an hour from the Gulf of Mexico in the Rio Grande Valley. It is actually quite arid except for agricultural irrigation, which is done by flooding the fields from canals, not with sprayers or sprinklers.
