When family tells me to give up...
In last 6 months my lower back and hip have been more painful than ever. I've been doing as much as I can to find help just gathering info and deciding on ways to resolve. I'm (a young lol) 68. Very active all my life riding horses and hiking. We have realized a weight lifting 3 month program I did in the fall put pressure and compression on my lower spine - bam ok mistake made. Walking is incredibily painful after 10 minutes. Injections, steroids - temporary help. I'm trying acupuncture & looking at high cbd/low thc tinture. Will be getting an MRI soon for more info then who knows what the advice will be. BUT - my family is shaming me for not retiring from my job which I NEED & like. And they tell me to stop being active - stop the hikes, hore someone to walk my dog??? I like to dance and they shamed me on that. You guys in this group understand I think... I will not let them discourage me - damn it's hard enough then no support?

I say bravo to you for going after what you love and gives your life joy and meaning.
@bdiver1verizon I listen to those who have been where I am - not to those on the outside looking in.
Please do get a professional opinion as to what might be a solution. I'm pretty sure they are not going to tell you to sit down and quit!
Have you had PT for this with a rehab therapist who specializes in spine and back issues?
thanks - yes I had PT in January - it hurt it more. I am trying another PT recommendation now.
Don't let anyone else shame you into possibly further harming your back!
I've had 8 spine surgeries, now suffer with DDD and never damage causing all kinds of problems with bowels and bladder.. I wish I had not been such a stubborn, completive athlete...I'm paying for it now!
You should get your MRI asap and in to see a good physical therapist BEFORE you do more damage. A good PT will help you learn to live with it, ease the pain by stretching and low impact exercise, etc.
Once your back is out of whack....everything else will eventually follow. The slightest misalignment of the vertebrae trigger the body to use other muscles, tendons, etc.. which ends up causing worse problems. Save whatever you have left, you'll have to live the rest of your years with your back!
I retrospect, I would never have done the first spine surgery. If PT can help you avoid surgery, DO IT.
To bdiver1verizon: I understand your situation. Mine is somewhat similar - except you have the AGE advantage.
If someone told me they are 84, I would think (goodness - that is old - time to slow down..... and GIVE UP!!). But, that is not in my DNA. I will keep working on improving. As Frost said: "I have miles to go before I sleep". I also do not have much support (especially from doctors!! what happened to them?). I am losing some direction - but there must be a better solution than I have been doing to move myself forward.
I do need guidance and do have stress. I think I need an ADVOCATE. Time is "a-wastin".
Let's just push forward. Very best luck to you. (I have your back!!)
Sorry that your family is not supportive of you and your aches and pains. Did you have any imaging done yet? Did you injure yourself somehow leading up to this recent pain exacerbation?
thank you. I think we are looking at a weight lifting program that was for cancer survivors in the fall months. I deadlifted 130 pounds and other things probably caused compression on my lower back so ugh.
Ouch! Whom were you trying to impress with the dead lift? Sorry your activity to stay healthy back fired. Stay strong and give yourself some healing time too.
I was in a clinical trial for cancer survivors and they pushed us with the weight program but clearly now I should not have done it
I hope you heal well and continue to care for yourself. Congratulations on beating cancer. 👏👏👏
