What's the treatment when you have no hip or spacer for a hip?
So my son had osteomyelitis as an infant and it totally destroyed his left hip. Dr's took what was left of the femur and placed it on a 30 degree angle in the space where the hip would go. There is a 3 in or so leg length discrepancy. Now at 39 he is visiting the idea of what can be done to increase his quality of life as far as mobility is concerned. Is there anyone out there that has had this type of issue?

I'm 80 years old. Due to SEPSIS that originated in my mouth, in addition to having 3 teeth removed, the infection spread to my hip, I had my right hip removed with no replacement possible. This was a year and a half ago. I was fortunate to be teamed with a great physical therapist whom I work with 2 times a week. I started with using a walker after being in a wheelchair for a few months. I am in the process of learning to walk with a cane and climb stairs using the cane. I have one leg that is one and a half inches shorter than the other. Originally I was using a 2 1/2" lift on my shoe until I went to an orthodist and got the corrected size. I highly recommend finding a good orthodist and most importantly a good physical therapist.
Since your son is far younger than I, he should expect even better results!
