What's the goal for T scores?

Posted by sebutler @sebutler, 6 days ago

It just occurred to me: In taking drugs for osteoporosis, is the goal a perfect -1 (or higher), that of a healthy young adult? Do we stop taking meds only when we reach that number? It seems to me unrealistic to think that a 70+-year-old woman like me would ever reach that number, especially having started out with DXA scores of -3 or less.

@bonebuddiesforlife Interesting about REMS. I the US I've only been offered Evenity after my DEXA...never even suggested REMS. What kind of improvement did you see on Evenity?

@debhatchell I had good gains on Evenity .
My CT scan and REMS , DEXA all showed me more on the osteopenia zone with one T11 in osteoporosis zone .
Better than my initial scans .
I will retest this coming April - DEXA and see what the results are compared to the previous year.
That will determine for me whether I take any more medication or stay on the program I’m on now.

@bonebuddiesforlife was your dexa and rems good? Doctors are only trained to hand out pills. Strong bones is a whole body approach.

@dvargo DEXA and REMS were both really good.
I have since started to take algae cal and strontium both of which I’m getting really good results from.

@sebutler Are you doing specific weight-bearing exercises? How about nutrition? I take vitamin D3 and K2, and collagen peptides.

You can still make gains in year two. Does your doctor order blood tests to monitor P1NP and CTX?

@njx58 Yes I am on a very specific weight bearing program and it’s very effective.
I take both K2 and Vitamin D along with ALGEA CAL and STRONTIUM , both together have been very effective .
This is the one I take , it’s from Canada and has great results.
