What Type of Doctor Diagnoses CRPS/Resource re: Treatment

Posted by georgescraftjr @georgescraftjr, Nov 30, 2025

Two Sundays ago, I went to the ER because my right knee, lower right leg, ankle and foot swelled up like a club. I was in so much pain that I was unable to walk. At the ER, the focus was on ruling out a blood clot.

Last night, my left knee and foot swelled up again, and the pain (and my husband's pain) kept me up most of the night. This morning, I read the post by @songfamily2025 about CRPS, which I had never heard or read about. I looked up CRPS and noticed that I have most of the symptoms of that syndrome but have not yet been diagnosed. What specialist do I need to see?

I am so sorry for all of you who have been diagnosed with CRPS and who have been unable to find a solution to make your pain tolerable.
(I elevated my leg all night with pillows and moved an ice pack around to whichever part of my leg and foot was aching the most; and I alternated the use of the ice pack with the application of a heating pad. I also took several CBD capsules, which helped me sleep for short intervals.)

This morning, I found this website and want to share the link with those of you with CRPS:
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/
I haven't looked at any of the articles yet. Please let me know if the website is of any help to you. Hope so.

Blessings and best of luck to those of you who susffer from CRPS.

@johnbishop I can't seem to find Rachel (moderator) on here to tag anymore, but she went through a pain treatment program via Mayo Clinic years ago and her story is what changed mine. If you are able to find it (I tried and failed), it'd be worth reposting for @blowerk1216 to read. I think she may have also posted a video about it ... she said it changed her world after feeling hopeless with tremendous pain.

Hi @rivermaya34 - Rachel @rwinney posted a video that might be the one you were trying to find but if not, tag her and I'm sure she can help. The video is in the first post in this discussion:

@rivermaya34 You are not alone 🙃 The only two words that I have not been able to forget is "Yes, dear!", other than that it's a daily challenge for me remembering, especially when it's a tool or computer thingy that I have misplaced. It often turns up in a special place where I put it so that I wouldn't forget and could find it. 🤣

@johnbishop I feel ya! LOL! I can usually count to 1.5 secs and my thought is completely gone, nowhere to be found. Even walking back thru doorways doesn't help. Usually it's about 3am and I finally remember 😀 That dang car wreck I was in years ago + seizure meds don't help my cause any lol, but I'd be worse off without. So, I'm thankful. But, I do look forward to the day when I get part of my brain back (what's left of it, anyway) once I finally get off Gaba. 🤞 I noticed a big difference in mental clarity when I was way down in dosage. #hopeful

Hello All,
Im waiting on a colonoscopy, so I didnt read or digest all, bjt I was diagnosed CRPS 5 yrs ago. Yes it literally feels like you're burning alive. Mine all start years ago from medical neglect. A small injury became very serious. I never fully recovered .
Good luck to all with CRPS.

@anniesezu812 Hi Thank you for your hugs. I need it very much. May I ask how is your Dr. treat your CRPS? Do you have any improvement in the past 5 years? My injury was doctor 's mistake too... I worked in the medical field. How can I say? I am glad you are here that we can encourage each other. Life goes on. Good luck on your upcoming procedure!
