What to Sit on to Alleviate Stiffness

Posted by susanew @susanew, Aug 25, 2024

I no longer have PMR according to my rheumatologist and am no longer using prednisone but am still suffering from joint stiffness. I am taking Tylenol Arthritis and Regular strength Tylenol which really helps. But what I need is help with suggestions of what can be used as a sitting device to relieve the stiffness after sitting for an extended period. When I move around, it is not bad at all but when I have been sitting in a prone position for a long time from either watching TV or reading, trying to get up and move about is extremely difficult.

I try not to sit for more than an hour at a time by getting up at least once an hour. Also helps me to have a chair with arms and not sit on a low coach with no arms.

John is right prolonged sitting is not good for PMR as I am sure you know. I sit on a heating pad that helps with stiffness and pain. Just make sure you get one that turns off automatically after a certain time in case you forget.

The old adage 'motion is lotion" is true. I have to get up and move every 20-30 minutes to avoid stiffness. The interruptions are worth it!

Don't sit on a heating pad - it will dry you out in places not intended to be dry. A heating pad at your back is fine. I often use a heating pad while watching TV, soothing but haven't really found that it helps with stiffness.

Try ice packs. They work too!

Don’t know if this will help but I was having pain while driving long distances, after PMR so I a got Cushion Lab ergo pad, only use it for driving but it’s also used for chairs I highly recommend this. The pain is gone a game changer, since my wife doesn’t fly
