What to expect and chances of getting in?
Hi! So I just had my first initial call yesterday and they went over paper work and my symptoms. Is it going to be a phone call or will it be on the portal? What are the chances of me not getting in? I'm going in for heart issues and a lot of other problems. What should I expect these coming weeks?

Thanks, I'll try, but over the past ten years, I've had no success with the Central Appointment Office. I have had no problems in dealing with all of her doctors and other staff through her portal or by telephone, but none with them. But I'll give it another shot.

1 ReactionI found that each patient needs to be their own advocate or have someone be their advocate. Here is a part from an essay I wrote: "I was to receive a call from the scheduling department "soon." What does "soon" mean in Minnesota? A week went by and I called them, but there was no progress. Another week went by and I wrote a message on the patient portal, should've done that in the first place. A day later I received a phone call from the scheduling department. (Advocate for yourself or fall through the cracks.)"

2 ReactionsAlas, I'm portal-less.
You can set up a portal if you have been assigned a patient number. If not, I hope one of the mentors can help you.
Therein lies the difficulty. That's what I was told when I tried to set up my own portal. The only time the forces at Mayo aided me was the night I passed out after my wife was brought back up after her liver transplant and left arm surgery (left arm surgery due to an anesthesiologist's error in poking into an artery instead of a vein) whereupon I was taken to the Emergency Department, as I struck my head on a corner of the bedside table winding up limbs akimbo on the floor in room 317 in the Mayo Hospital, probably looking like a dropped Raggedy Andy doll. As far as I know, I wasn't given a patient number, as I have no accompanying paperwork.
@usdiplomat, Concierge Services can walk through the process with you step by step. Please contact them to get your Mayo patient portal account set up.

I am hoping my daughter will be seen by gastroenterology. She needs a diagnosis and/or surgery, and no one in Canada can/will do it. She has a rare syndrome, and has supposedly complicated history. If they don't accept her, she will likely just die. What are my chances, given the political atmosphere right now? I should add she's been in hospital since October 4, 2022 and is on parenteral nutrition.

Welcome to Mayo Connect. I hope you will be able to find treatment for your daughter.
I suggest you contact a patient advocate at the Mayo Clinic Information Service in Canada:
https://www.mayoclinic.org/departments-centers/international/locations/canada
How old is your daughter?
she is 38. We are in the process of her specialist collecting her medical information to send in as requested by Mayo. I will give this information to my Patient Navigator/advocate too. Thank you for replying so soon!
Is there any way my patient advocate can contact you? I can't post her email here apparently. Sorry.
