What to do!

Posted by guinivere @guinivere, Apr 18 12:04am

My endocrinologist today through her nurse has let me know that my tests are back & she wants me to go on either Fosomax or
Prolia & she wants my decision like tomorrow! I know I have to get going on something as I am 86 with bad bone density numbers - like 3.6, 3.6 & 3.4. What to do!!!!!!!!

Do you have an Osteostrong franchise near you. I don’t take any medication and this program I uses no medication but is a series of weight bearing exercises.
Just go in and talk to them.

Have never heard of them. Will have to look them up.

I’m not trying to sell you Osteostrong. I’m just saying there are other options besides drugs. And I think they are worth pursuing. Good luck to you!

@ppat4pr

I have no idea what to do. I am 84 with osteopenia. My physician also wants me to go on Fosamax but I have been told by a very reliable holistic chiropractic doctor that it causes the bones to become brittle so that when they break, they actually shatter!

Jump to this post

@ppar4r have you been on any meds before? Is this your first time considering Fosamax? Are your bones close to -2.5 anywhere? Do you have GERD? Do you take calcium and D3? These are all important things to discuss with your doctor, as well as whether you might be able to take a natural route. You can buy the books by Dr. Keith McCormick for advice on that holistic approach.

Guinivere, good thing you resisted. We're all surprised you weren't offered an anabolic. Maybe she thinks you couldn't give yourself a tiny injection. But maybe she doesn't know you should have an anabolic first.
Don't let her convince you to take reclast. Heartburn was signaled in the clinical trials with both reclast and zometa.
I hope we can have an exchange about Prolia before the two years of Tymlos have ended.
Are you requesting bone markers?

@gently I have never heard that Reclast causes heartburn.

Can you share info on this?

REPLY

windyshores, it's in the less common side effects.

I was taking Fosamax years ago, think it bothered my jaw. I have acid reflux, and take Vitamin D3. Thank you very much for your reply. I truly appreciate it.
