What side effects have you experienced from SBRT for prostate cancer

Just diagnosed with prostate cancer Gleason score 7. Options are prostate surgery versus SPRT leaning towards SBRT anyone had experience with this?

Same here, I was 68 y.o. when diagnosed in February. I was Gleason 7 (3+4). I started ADT (Orgovyx) on March 26, SBRT from April 9 to 21 (without SpaceOAR). I noticed some white mucus and a little blood on my stool about 4 days in week 2 post-radiation; I notice no more in week 3. Heard that risk of rectal damage could have been reduced substantially (not 100% eliminated) if there was a spacer.
My oncologist mentioned that my immediate side effects would occur around the 3rd or 4th week after my last SBRT. I am cautiously optimistic for this coming week, when my wife and I will be on a Disney Cruise (booked 8 months before my diagnosis). My oncologist said that I'm good to go; I hope if my SEs peak on week 4, they wouldn't be much worse than week 2. (The long-term SEs may be 10 years or more down the road; not worried about them yet--new treatments may be available by the time they appear, if ever.)
My oncologist will advise if I can get off Orgovyx after 8 or 12 months. I am just a month and a half now.

I'm so glad you went ahead with the cruise. I remember that you were hesitant at first.

Bon voyage! 🚢

Glad to hear that everything went well with you! That is very encouraging for me because I am nervous as hell.

Here is a summary of my side effects. My treatment really was a piece of cake. I chose it over RALP as it has essentially the same cure rate. And rather than certain short term (and possibly long term side effects) I chose to possibly have delayed side effects. I would rather enjoy life while I can and if side effects kick in when I am 80, so be it.

Finished my 5th SBRT on December 28th. I had a Barrigel spacer placed. Other than first evening fatigue has not been a problem.
That evening I experienced slight fatigue. That night I got up to pee three times (one time had been typical for me).
Day 1 post treatment- Some urinary urgency. Started two Flomax a day.
Day 2- Only peed once that night, urgency improved.
Day 3- Did not need to pee overnight. Back to one Flomax.
Day 4 - GI urgency, some mucus passed, watery blood on toilet paper. Butt feels like it did after TRUS biopsy.
Day 5 – GI urgency/constipation, watery blood on TP, only peed once last night. Burning with urination. Butt still sore.
Day 6 – GI urgency/constipation, less blood on TP, burning on urination improving. Butt soreness decreasing.
Day 7 – GI greatly improved, butt soreness essentially gone. Urination burning gone. Peed three times last night
Day 8 - Two "urgency" episodes that I did not need to act on last night. A little constipated this morning. Urination is fine.

Thanks for your experience with SBRT. My radiation oncologist said I would not need hormone therapy and my diagnosis grade is similar to yours. Wonder why?

Has anyone had experience with cyberknife SBRT? That's what my doctor would use.

My doctor is sending me for blood work. He wrote down on the paper screening for Malignant neoplasm of Prostate. A little longer than two weeks ago I started getting pain on the bottom of my spine and pelvic both sides. Sometimes I have a problem starting to pee but I get a stream sometimes slow. I'm 68 not very active. The pain seemed to come out of nowhere any suggestions

Hi there
Thanks for responding and yes this is the journey none of us wanted but here we are… I had 11 cores 3 were positive 2 Gleason score 7 (3+4) and 1 Gleason 6. Leaning towards SBRT at this point because I’ve heard the side effects are less.

I had 11 cores 3 + 3. And one core 3+ 4 (only 5% was a 4). PSA was 4-5. No cribform or perinureal invasion. None escaped prostate.

Was investigating surgery vs SBRT.

Then watched video by Dr Laurence Klotz some (suggested in this site) about active surveillance. (AS). Changed my thinking.

They asked why jump into radical treatment with low intermediate cancer.

Met with my urologist and scheduled a decipher test to be run on my biopsy samples.

If low results I will do AS. Urologist agrees.

If high I will do SBRT with spaceOAR gel.

My treatment was with Elekta Versa HD. Here's how Cyberknife compares with Versa.
