What should I do?

Posted by frana95 @frana95, Jul 15, 2023

I was on Ozempic, they took me off thinking I was having side effects from it (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness/lightheadedness, sudden weight loss, and fatigue.)
Now I have a numbness that wraps from the front to the back on the left side of my upper abdomen.
I researched and found nothing. I have this gut feeling I should look at pancreas issues. I do have a cyst on it. I don't get into the specialist until October. I just want to go to an ER and tell them to test my pancreas.
The doctors here have lost my faith in them and I am very concerned.

@frana95 welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Pancreas concerns can be very scary. I can relate. In a nutshell I am 66 years old. My grandmother died of pancreatitis 60 years ago. I’ve been diabetic going on 50 years and have some nasty associated complications. A year ago I had a CT scan that revealed a “lesion” on my pancreas. I was told that it was “something, but nothing to be concerned about”. The plan was to “watch it”. This year I had a follow up MRI. The “lesion” is still “something, but nothing to be concerned about”. This week I have a routine “Medicare annual wellness check” with my primary. We will discuss it. You mentioned Ozempic. This was prescribed for me my a Mayo endocrinologist years ago. I ran it by my local endocrinologist and she prescribed something else. Ozempic wasn’t covered by my insurance at the time. This was about 7 years ago. I’m wondering who “they” is that prescribed and took you off of Ozempic? Could you inquire about an alternative med? Could you also describe these current symptoms to this provider to find out what s/he recommends? It is sad to lose faith in your provider. Could the October appointment with the specialist be moved up?

@frana95, it sounds like you might be looking for a second opinion. If you'd like to consult with a Mayo Clinic expert, you can request an appointment here: http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63

I also agree with @cehunt57 that you're asking the right questions and you may wish to ask them of your prescribing doctor. How are you feeling today?
