What implant design are Mayo docs using today for hips

I am new here, but not to Mayo. I will be having my second hip replaced this summer. The first one was done 20+ years ago.

My question to the group is - what are Mayo doctors using today for the ball, stem and socket? Is it primarily uncemented Hydroxyapatite coated stems with ceramic balls and UHMWPE cup, which from the literature appears to be the current state of the practice?
Or - are they using some other design?

@hips4me I'm curious too, since I will likely be a candidate for replacement of my implants in the next few years. Here on Mayo Connect we are a support group of patients and caregivers, ot actually Mayo Providers, so we don't have the answer to your question.

I will say this - about 4 years ago, I learned there are over 100 different hip implants in use, some are nearly "mix and match" - certain stems can accept more than one ball, and some acetabular cups may be used with multiple liners.

If you are considering Mayo for your surgery, the best option would be to arrange a consultation at the center of your choice. You can begin here:
