What Does Myasthenia Gravis Speech Sound Like?
I already have mixed connective tissue disease with nearly all criteria for lupus. I was recently diagnosed with esophageal dysmotility and I am waiting on a follow up appointment for that. I recently developed a lot of trouble speaking. My speech is very halted, and it takes a lot of effort to form words. I used to have extremely fluent, rapid fire speech and my voice was very loud.
I was also really good at doing voices and imitations. I normally do a voice for my dog, and I can't even get out my words for her to (say) "I love you Dad" to my husband in my own voice.
Someone suggested that I could have Myasthenia Gravis. My husband told me that he is taking me to the doctor no matter what on Monday if my voice isn't back to normal.
What does Myasthenia Gravis speech sound like? I am trying to figure this out.

@firescienceguru2025 welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! I’m glad you found this site. People here are very helpful! As for your voice, I honestly don’t know if there is a very specific sound. Since you already have esophageal dismotility, your husband is smart to take you to a physician. In fact, you should go anyway! If you can’t get in to see your doctor, go to the ER or Urgent Care!
Why do you think you might have myasthenia gravis?
