What do people pay for Abiraterone?

Posted by bonanzaman @bonanzaman, Aug 14 8:05am

I'm taking abiraterone for my PC and initially with insurance I was getting it with prednisone mail order for around $250 a month. That was setup by my medical care team. I started searching around and found that I could get it locally at my local supermarket chain for around $75. I asked them if they could get it and they said sure. I then called my prescription insurance company and they gave me the price if I was buying it from them. That is a difference of close to $200 difference. That's a chunk of change for anybody.
I just wanted to pass this on to try to help others who might be paying too much.
Stay healthy.

Good info. I've also found Costco (for members) has good prices and you can check their price on their website if you log into your Costco account. Depending on the medication, I've also found quite a price reduction if I get 90 days worth versus 30 days worth. Depending on the medication, sometimes the pharmacy can make that change for you without going back to the doctor.

My doctors said it was a specialty drug that normal pharmacies won't carry. It was painful for me to get them to change from their preferred pharmacy to the one I wanted. I supplied them with all my documentation from the pharmacy and my insurance provider showing that I was covered. They finally gave me a 12 month refill for my drugs. If I start to travel, it will be nice to have a multi month supply as from looking at prices in New Zeeland and other places are totally ridiculous.

I was on it for 25 months, glad to get off it. PSA has been < .01 for over 2 years.

When picking up a prescription for my Dad the pharmacist told me--you know, if you didn't use Medicare to pay for this prescription, you'd pay far less. $180s less.

Just reading up on Trelstar and found that "LUPRON (leuprolide acetate) injection, 1 mg/0.2 mL, is currently listed in the “Discontinued Drug Product List” section of the Orange Book." Mayo, MD Anderson and Sloan Kettering all said Lupron is the drug to use when I got opinions from them. I need to read up on Trelstar.
I need to read up on "White button mushrooms powder". I'm taking CBD oil and Taurine as they both have some effects on the cells of PC per the National Institutes of Health (NIH). I told my doctors and they didn't have an issue with either of those. Maybe they help, but they shouldn't hurt. I asked one of my doctors about supplements and he didn't want to talk about it.
