What could be going on?
This summer I noticed I was suddenly sensitive to caffeine and it made me feel weird sort of like a panic attack but it felt unusual. I was also feeling tired and run down. I then received a covid vaccine and 3 days after that I had too much caffeine and completely crashed. I felt panicky for weeks like all the adrenaline was being sucked out of me. Something I didn’t even know was possible to feel. I was then diagnosed with mono in October and have been sufferIng from extreme mental fatigue, brain fog can’t focus, anhedonia can’t feel life anymore, depression, apathy for months. It’s bad enough to where I can’t function or go to school anymore. Working out makes it worse and I have no Interest in life at all. What could possibly be going on? I have never heard of mono affecting anyone like this?

Hi @jessrunner03 Oh golly you sound so miserable. Mono can leave you drained for months. However mononucleosis is actually caused by the Epstein-Barr virus. Yup, another pesky virus.
Most often, people recover from the initial infection of the EBV. However some people can have symptoms lasting for sometime. The virus never leaves the body but goes dormant and seldom makes an appearance again unless the body’s immune system is weakened, then it can re-awaken.
You may have a continued live viral reaction going on or there is also Chronic Epstein Barr Virus in which people have a more severe and prolonged reaction to the disease. Another member of Connect, @mariabrat has been dealing with the chronic EBV as well. I’m not say this is what’s happening to you but in my opinion, it would be a good idea to visit your Primary care physician to have a follow up exam. They can run some more blood tests to check your overall health and see what you’re dealing with.
Have you returned to your doctor after the initial diagnosis?
Yes she said my blood work looked good and that my body was fighting the infection which is good but still not feeling right. We are going to see a neurologist next and I’m on a low dose antidepressant to see if that helps at all. Just hope this goes away
For your sake, I sure hope this goes away quickly too! I can feel your anxiety and frustration over not knowing what’s going on. Sometimes it takes some investigative work to get to the bottom of things so it’s good to hear you’re heading to neurologist next.
Will you let me know what you find out from that visit?
Jessrunner, your story is one that has been told many, many times. Your story is my story. I have been dealing with these issues from mono for over 2 years. Doctors can’t help you, because no one wants to study these issues that millions of people deal with. It is discouraging and frustrating. Right now I am a patient at the Cleveland Clinic, but no answers. Please read The Healer Within by Holly Chameli. I highly recommend it. I lost my job and my life is very tiny now, but Holly offers hope.
Hey guys, any updates on this? I have the exact same thing. Had mono 2 years ago, and straight away developed anhedonia that I’ve been unable to shake off
