What can you do week 1 to Week 10 after Reverse Shoulder Surgery?

Posted by forge55 @forge55, Nov 26 7:07pm

I am a rt hand amputee. My left shoulder has a major rotator cuff injury that is not repairable. I have been told a reverse shoulder surgery is in my future. With that in mind. What can I do with my right hand week 1 after surgery? Will I be able to dress myself, feed myself, and go to the toilet?

Hello @forge55,

I'd like to invite @jime707, @anno, @dmk, @enelra03 and @hsminc to this discussion to share their recovery progress and plans after their reverse shoulder replacements.

@forge55, you bring up some very logical questions and being prepared prior to surgery is always a great way to go. Have you had a chance to talk with a surgeon yet, or are you not that far down the path of a procedure yet?

First week post Reverse Total Shoulder Replacement
the operative arm was in a adductor sling except to bathe...shirts with snaps down operative side were wonderful...found on Amazon....I was able to eat with non operative sided hand and handled bathroom issues without any problem.
I got my Rx bottles without special locked caps...prepared meals in advance....froze extra bottles of water in freezer for ice therapy...last longer than ice cubes....
Hope this helps...Im 6 months post op....never had post op pain with regime given...finished PT....have full motion and continuing with strength training....wishing you good luck and great recovery!
