What brought you joy today?

Posted by northoftheborder @northoftheborder, Jun 28, 2024

If you've been living with cancer for a while, you know it's not all gloom and doom. Where did you find joy today? I'll start:

1. Working in my garden.
2. Meeting my daughter for tea.
3. Home-made pizza for dinner.
4. My spouse (always).
5. Some interesting online discussions.
6. Rereading a good novel.

Most are like me, their husband’s think that they have to go.
Mine from the time he wakes up is in the same place. He watches utube and he is supposed to be getting rid of stuff and getting the downstairs clean. I should be grateful for him, but I find myself really anxious. I was always self reliant, because he went into work at 12:00, that I am not used to him being around. I need a purpose. If I wake up in the night I put the dishes in the dishwasher and have been doing the laundry. Otherwise I am looking up things on my phone and it doesn’t help.

Maybe try volunteer work for x number of hours per week depending on your needs. If he wants to do it with you that’s okay because you would still be doing something new and interacting with new people. Maybe some of your friends would want to join in.

What about joining something like the Red Hat Society that is a women only social group? You and your friends could start your own chapter or join one. I don’t know that much about it. Just a thought. Brainstorm with your friends on what would benefit all of you. Maybe the men could start something of their own as well so you all stay happy and active. New people, new activities and new conversations would keep life interesting for all of you. Actively pursue a solution and you’ll find it. I can’t wait to see some new joy posts from you soon! In the meantime, keep reading the joy posts from others to see how the simple things in life often bring us the most joy. Maybe start game night with other couples? So many joys out there just ripe for the picking. 😊

Do you have a friend that may want to do day trips that don’t interest your husband? I just spent a few days on a road trip with a lifelong friend and it was full of joy and relaxation. She’s married and her husband didn’t mind at all. They always take trips both together and separately. If not a trip, maybe even just a community craft class or something with a friend just to mix it up a little. Maybe even just lunch with a friend. Hope it works out for you.

Talking with my grandson when I woke up in the night.
I am trying to find things. I was going to get out by myself, but my husband thinks he has to go. I should be grateful, but I need space. Everything that I suggest for a day trip he finds an excuse .

Last night we had dinner with friends that we had not seen in over 2 months and then today we ran into some more friends that we had not seen in an even longer period of time at the local DQ! There is nothing that a little ice cream cannot fix !

Yesterday we traveled to Stockholm Wisconsin for their annual Art Show on the banks of Lake Pepin (Mississippi River). Wonderful art, live music, and homemade pie. This year for the first time they had a traveling poet . She carried a basket of cards for you to pick from and each had a poem on it. Mine read, " People, Life is not over!" I,of course started to cry. I told here that I was healing from 2 cancers and cancer free 79 days! In spite of my tears it brought me great joy.

Today my joy came from watching out the window, 14 turkeys in my back yard. Been living here almost 20 years and is first time seeing them, plenty of others but not the turkeys. Appeared to be 3 moms and 11 young ones. they would walk around then plop down to relax. On and off I watched them for over 3 hours, it was a pretty joyful site to see them. Best to all.
