What brought you joy today?
If you've been living with cancer for a while, you know it's not all gloom and doom. Where did you find joy today? I'll start:
1. Working in my garden.
2. Meeting my daughter for tea.
3. Home-made pizza for dinner.
4. My spouse (always).
5. Some interesting online discussions.
6. Rereading a good novel.

After enjoying a blustery, but sunny spring day in the Cascades, my wife and I returned to the cabin. We were just finishing up "vole-proofing" the soon-to-be green bean area of the veggie garden, when I glanced towards the neighbors cabin and saw what appeared to be a GIANT fluffy stuffed animal. Or that was my initial thought until I saw the very large cinnamon colored black bear continue to move closer. Strong winds were coming from behind the bear which prevented him from smelling us or hearing our conversation. The daylight was fading into dusk making it more difficult for it to see us working 50 feet away. My wife and I stood together and I called "Hey bear" several times in a loud, but calm voice. As I waved my arms, it stopped walking and looked at us for about 10 seconds before realizing we were people. It then turned and walked away on the far side of the neighbor's cabin. A few seconds later, the bear emerged from in front of the cabin running towards the woods across the road. Every day is special, particularly those spent in the great outdoors. But it is the unexpected surprises that underscore how wonderful life is, even during recovery from treatment, I hope each of you will be able to find and cherish what brings you joy today.

Hi julessegal,
I love rain too! In fact, it's been raining hard all afternoon! I can hear it on the roof. It sounds so nice! Rain makes everything look and smell so clean. I live in Washington State and it is well known for its rain. We have rain from Oct. until August! November and January are our rainiest months. Of course, there are some sunny days throughout the year also. Not enough for the tourists. I remember when I worked as a hotel desk clerk, how the tourists always complained about so much rain! Of course, it was summer!
I'm glad you enjoyed the rain on your deck!

I'm making shepherd's pie, too! I have two in the freezer that I made from turkey leftovers at Thanksgiving. All I have to do is add the potatoes on top. Love the Pie!
i love it when i can get out of bed in the am and dome productive things. today i peeled potatos for the shepherds pie i am making today. i also cleaned my oven drawer filled my dehumidifier opened packages. i get many things online like pots knives and other things to make my life easier.
Waking up to grey skies and the sound of rain on my deck brought me joy!
@stevecando54, it's so good to be able to get together with and enjoy your family. I'm glad that you had that opportunity and that it brought you joy. So many people today don't have that opportunity either because they don't live near their family or they're estranged from them. You are truly blessed.
P.S. - Those pounds sure do have a way of sneaking up on us, don't they? Hope you at least enjoyed your salad, even though I'm sure that wasn't your first choice. But don't feel bad...you're not alone. I had to go back to the salads this week myself. 😊
I went out to lunch with a couple of family members that I hadn't seen in a couple months, had a wonderful time enjoying their company and a nice meal.( although I had to have a salad, apparently I have put on a couple pounds since retiring).
Testing negative for COVID-19 after finding out someone I'd seen on the weekend had tested positive. Cancer's enough to deal with these days.
Lunch with my 7 year old grandaughter
Recently I had to stop writing to a friend of 40 years who just wouldn't stop sending me political stuff to prove I'm wrong. I'm 83; I can make up my own mind by now!
