Weight gain post surgery
I have gained at least 15 pounds since total thyroidectomy March 10. I had RAI in June. My last TSH was 39. My levo dose is 150. My next blood work is in September so I hope my TSH has come down. I am frustrated because I do Weight Watchers but nothing seems to work. I am 78 but very healthy and active. Is there hope I can figure this out. I also have muscle fatigue but really no other symptoms.

Hi. Perhaps a critical question is why a 150 dose of Levothyroxine is not controlling your TSH.
I am 73, active, eat well under 1400 calories per day. I can't lose weight because I am hypothyroid.
I have found (we are all tired of hearing this) that a balanced diet of healthy carbs and high protein is best. IMO WW doesn't focus enough on nutrition. If you like to use apps, try My Fitness Pal, it's free.
But, getting back to your numbers...you need to review all the markers with your endocrinologist. Your TSH is very high. And, have you had any post treatment follow up scans?
Take care.
Hi,
Thank you for your reply.
My last bloodwork was in June after the RAI. I had just started that dose that week. I do think that my TSH was probably that high due to the manipulation needed before the RAI. I have been on that dose since then so hopefully at my next blood draw it will improve. WW always worked for me in the past but for some reason it does not now. I have had a life long struggle with my weight but until now i was somewhat in control. I have an appointment with my endo in early Sept. after the blood draw so hopefully she can help. I sometimes feel that i should just be glad i have made it this far without any major health issues but i still want to be a healthier weight.
