@lotsofpain Having just been through this, and 8 month out from repair surgery, I have few questions.
Have you seen an orthopedic surgeon? Had a diagnostic MRI? What is the plan going forward? PT, rotator cuff surgery, reverse shoulder replacement?
Have you seen a PT for a safe and effective set of exercises?
Here was the recommendation I got -
Wear a sling when doing work or vigorous activities to remind yourself that the arm is injured.
Wear a sling if your arm feels better in it, but it is not necessary.
Wear a sling when you go out to let other people around you know that your arm/shoulder is injured.
What did the doc or PT have to say about a sling? Who is providing the conflicting opinions?
I've had an inoperable torn rotator cuff for about 15 years. A few years ago I told my PT that I would need a sling, he said no way then you get frozen shoulder , just use it as much as possible until I could get a cortisone injection. Using it did strengthen the surrounding muscles but still some pain. Night time I could not sleep because of pain. I read that one must put a small pillow or rolled up towel under the elbow to upper arm at night so the shoulder does not touch the bed. It works, the pain is no longer worse at night.
