Self catheterization: How to ward off UTIs?
I had spinal surgery, which left me with a neurogenic bladder. Presently, I am using a catheter which the neurologist changes every 3 to 4 weeks. I know that self catheterization is in my future, which really frightened me. I hear a lot about UTIs since I’ve been investigating my condition. I was wondering if taking a cranberry supplement might help and wording off a UTI. Are there any do s or donts that you can suggest that might help look me in my situation. I appreciate anything you might be able to offer me. Thank you.

@2will2: Long time recurrent UTI’s in my history; however, I take Uribel 81.6mg tablets once a day or twice if I feel bladder might have problem starting. This drug turns urine blue/green color but has an anti-bacterial agent that keeps the kidney & bladder from infections. It is cash only so I get cheapest price via Goodrx or similar discount coupons.
Please ask your Urologist if this might help you “ward off” UTI’s.
PS: pure cranberry juice (diluted with filtered water) helps flush-out your bladder while staying very hydrated! I can’t comment on cranberry capsules.
