Vest before or after saline?
I have always nebulizer first, then vibrated. Today my husband asked, “if one of the purposes of the vest (or Vibralung) is to shake mucus loose, wouldn’t it make more sense to do that first,so you’d cough up maximum mucus?” I decided to ask you all. Thanks.

Hi Woot (btw, unique, cool name). My pulmo sorta casually said to neb first then “thump.” I have complied only minimally as I’m averse to expanding the time required to complete the procedure beyond the minimal necessary. I start the nebulizer, take a few big “huffs” and fire up the ole Thumper. As I think I’ve said before, I really know how to have fun! Just don’t want to over do it. LOL. Don
Hi Don. Always a pleasure to read what you have to say. On this, don’t know if I want to take you as my roll model. LOL
I use my vest DURING my nebulizer treatments with albuterol then saline.
I use mine at the same time also. Right now I do Ventolin for 15 minutes with my Afflo vest and then I do the saline for 15 minutes with the rest of the vest and then I do Arikayce for 15 minutes and this works really well for me. The Ventolin keeps away bronchospasm Possibilities of Arikayce and I really get up a lot of mucus plugs at the end of my Arikayce I am really very happy about that.
@migizii I do mine at the same time. My pulmonologist and the respirologist said this was okay.
Woot, My words may have obscured what I intended to convey. I nebulize and use the percussion vest simultaneously for 30 minutes starting with 5 deep “neb” breaths before starting the “Thumper.” The 5 deep breaths?
Nothing more than my little superstitious overture. Or perhaps a tiny nod to the Pulmo’s instruction. Don
Thanks, Don. You’re right. I misread your first post. And thanks,Judy, CKS, and Migizi. It really helps to know you are out there, That we’re all in this together.
