Verzenio: How are you paying for this ridiculously expensive drug?

Posted by mjwhearts22 @mjwhearts22, Aug 21, 2023

Hi. I’ve finished both chemo and radiation treatments and now my oncologist wants me on Verzenio but at a starting price of $2850 a month we can’t do this. We applied for financial support from Lilly and was rejected. We are living off social security and a couple of minor income streams because cancer forced me to quit working. Medicine is either for the very wealthy or those not making much money. We middle class citizens are being squeezed out! It’s shameful! This drug gets more expensive with every dose change. I’m supposed to be on it for 2 years. Any ideas?

I am still trying to get mine approved through insurance, cost was going to be $17,000+. Hope to get that covered.

I was on Verzenio for 11 months. I'm on Medicare. The 1st month was 2300$, but subsequent months were 800$. It worked for 11 months so for me it was worth the money and I would still be paying if it were still working. I am a retired teacher so my income was too high to qualify for any type of financial assistance.

Hi all: my experience back in October 2019 was equally difficult. But I was persistent and was able to get an activated Verzenio (Abemaciclib) Lilly Savings card. It came from the Verzenio Continuous Care Group ( 1-844-VERZENIO (1-844-837-9364) Mon-Fri, 8am-10pm EST. In my case and it said on my card that it was to be presented to my pharmacy and that I was to have private non-governmental insurance coverage. It said on my card that the card was ineligible for government plans like Medicare b/c they reimbursed in part or in whole. So what I am trying to point out here are a couple of things - there is a generic name for the drug. Try inputting that or using that. Apply again. Contact Lilly or try the number I provided above (maybe changed?) and explain the issue. Contact your doctor's office for help. Contact Medicare. Or contact your private insurance. They have departments with people who love to help. I worked every angle. Sorry to ask you to have energy and persistence when going through something like this. I will say it work well for me for 18 months and then it didn't. But still going strong. I never had any real problem with diarrhea b/c I really worked hard on my diet and timing of eating foods. Good luck!!

My Verzenio costs are the same with Medicare. My Faslodex injections are covered by Medicare B and I don’t pay for them. It is worth it to have this treatment!
