Has anyone had a UTI after a hysterectomy?

@kristysue I have had a UTI since my hysterectomy but not immediately afterward. I had a UTI about two years later.

Did you have a UTI immediately following your hysterectomy? How are you feeling tonight? Did you see your family doctor and are getting treated?

Replying to kristysue@kristysue It felt like a UTI immediately after surgery … urination extremely painful. However, it went away within 48-72 hours. I also recall extreme pain when the catheter was removed in post op. Good luck with your recovery!

They have me medication which they said was what is in AZO over the counter medication for UTI's, right before the hysterectomy so no did not have any problem. It amazes me how much of the meds they give you are over the counter meds. But, guess I was lucky since they gave it to me before the hysterectomy.

I had burning when I urinated 5 days after my hysterectomy. I took a urine test and it came back negative. I continued to have the burning and noticed blood in my urine. I went in for a repeat test today and it was negative but there were white and red blood cells present in my urine. The doctor at Urgent Care gave me a prescription for Bactrim. I have my two week follow-up so I will discuss it with my surgeon.
