Uterine Papillary Serous Carcinoma: What treatments did you have?

Posted by goldengirl2 @goldengirl2, Oct 25, 2018

Is there anyone out there who has gone through the treatments for this? I have had surgery , and chemo taxes/carboplatin. Radiation is suggested but no one seems to have any data to refer to as we are such a small group I’m guessing. Very nervous moving forward as to what to do.

I had 5 radiation treatments in May 2021 after a total hysterectomy. About a month later I began to have bouts of diarrhea. It has gotten better but it's been 10 months since the last brachytherapy and I still have loose stools almost every day along with the urgent need to go to the bathroom. It has gotten better but my doctor says it is very uncommon to have this long term side effect. Does anyone else still have this problem? Thanks

Hi @gormie, loose stools and urgent need is a common side effect after radiation for a gynecologic cancer. But I can see you're concerned about still dealing with this 10 months after radiation. I'm tagging @bluemeade7 @naturegirl5 @embeth99 @goldengirl2 @polkagal @ejrdevries @ejohn @rose53 to bring them into this discussion and get their experiences and tips.

I had three courses of vaginal brachytherapy in late September 2018 and it was sandwiched in between chemo. My normal chemo side effects were incontinence, followed by a few days of constipation followed by a few days of diarrhea. After the brachy sandwich I had this same sequence followed by horribly painful diarrhea, 6 times in one day, then the next day it went away. I have occasional diarrhea now one month post lady chemo. My main complaint is that my body's traditional signals for elimination no longer work well. When it tells me that I need to go, I have zero time to run to the toilet. Bowels & bladder have settled down so that I am on my way back to normal but it is dicey everyday. I still have no appetite so I am no where near consuming the volume of food and liquid I used to so there is that in the equation. My team told me to wait one year after the last treatment to assess changes and that this might be the new normal for me. I can easily deal with these challenges, but if the diarrhea came back I would be housebound. Diarrhea is one of the more serious side effects from radiation for uterine cancer, USPC.

@embeth so glad to hear you are 3 1/2 yrs NED 😊 That's great that your energy and stamina have increased! Woo-hoo for doing that walk, thank you! Are SHARE'S presentations accessible to anyone? I enjoyed the one you sent the link for back when you first told us about your involvement with SHARE. Keeping you in my prayers, too, and sending you hugs as well!

Dear Polkagal, thank you for your good thoughts. I have been NED for 3-1/2 years now. And my energy and stamina have finally increased. I did a walk again for Foundation for Women’s Cancer a few weeks ago. Last year I did it with my sister in Washington, D.C. This year it was virtual. I walked for you and golden girl 2 again. I haven’t actually started with SHARE’s helpline yet. I have been working on other projects. I check in with SHARE’s support group every once in a while and I never miss their presentations by doctors on uterine cancer and preventing its recurrence. Sending love and light to you and golden girl 2. xo

yes it was 2 years remission for me too then ... of all unheard of things it appeared as a small tumor in my left cerebellum!! the oncologist was stunned.. did surgery and the tumor just popped out and no signs anywhere else of it! no further treatment as they are going to take the watch and see approach 🤷‍♀️ oh and 5 weeks after my original brain surgery i had to get it all done again due to infection🥱 but onward and upward I say.. thanks for thinking of us!

@goldengirl I am so sorry to hear this. But I am glad that it was treatable, that it requires no further treatment, and that you are once again on the road to recovery 😊 I will continue to keep you in my prayers, and I send hugs your way! This cancer thing...so unpredictable, always lurking it seems. Reminds us to always be mindful. So thankful you are ok, goldengirl!!

I need to start meditating again because I think that that is a big part of staying NED. Also, I drink a glass of green tea every day. I don't like the taste of it so I mix it with hibiscus tea. I hope that there are no more bumps in your road of health!
