Urination issues after surgery

@donniebrasco9 Hi, I am 3 months post op T10 to L4 fusion and I found it difficult to completely empty my bladder for several weeks after surgery. I read that this can happen after back surgery and I’m happy to say that it has returned to normal for me.

@sherrym25 That's great news for sure! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. Will you be able to return to horseback riding very soon? I do hope so!

@jenniferhunter I have an appointment with my surgeon this week and plan to ask him about what activities I can do at this point. I had another set of X-rays done last week for him to review how things are fusing.
I have a yearling colt who I barely halterbroke before surgery and I’ve started handling him a little but I need to be careful because he is young and full of energy and could easily make me jerk or twist my back.
I’m impatiently waiting for everything to heal as I feed my horses every day😊

@sherrym25 Your colt sounds like he may be a challenge. Can you have him trained with a professional trainer? I know physically, I am not a person who could break a horse and risk being thrown or even sit on a bucking horse. That's why I bought a very well trained 6 year old. He's 10 now, and he did test me that first year, but he is good and he worships me. He's a bit barn sour which we will work on. I attended a Buck Branaman clinic as a spectator and bought some videos from him to reinforce what I learned. Positive reinforcement really does work, and they get a choice for the easy way and if they don't take that, some other things to think about. My horse thrives on attention and he's very smart. I am going to work through all the ground training again this spring. I also don't ride alone away from the farm. I had a fall from a borrowed horse 5 years ago that spooked and I had a bad ankle fracture. I hobbled out in my cast and crutches to see my old horse who was unsound, and that is healing just to be among them. If there is any question of safety, I will get off and walk. My new horse has been afraid of bicycles, so I've worked on that with him, but I never know if he's really over it.
