Update on son's esophagus cancer (radiation & chemo first)
My son had his port and feeding tube in yesterday. there was a lot of scar tissue from an old hiatal hernia, the dr cut away alot of it so he could put the tube in the stomach. he is very sore, stayed one night in the hosp. released today, he is eating but really sore and slow moving. Any advise as to what anyone else that has gone thru like this would b appreciated. he was diagnosed with stage one 6 weeks ago. He has opted for chemo and radiation first, which is supposed to start nx week.

When my husband first had his port and feeding tube placed, they also did a laparoscopy to further investigate for any other evidence of disease. He was very uncomfortable afterwards but it got better about 4-5 days later. He could drive in a week. Do you know if they also did a laparoscopy when they placed the feeding tube? I would imagine they did and this is probably the cause of his discomfort. It will get better!
He had a endoscopy. The cutting away of the scar tissue caused the hard to get around and sorest
I talked to him today
Getting around better. He is supposed to start his treatments nx week
Thanks for the input.
@golfngal, how is your son's treatment going? Does he have support caring for him at home? As a parent, I'm sure you're worried. How are you doing?
He starts chemoradiation wed, thurs and fri is radiation. We are going with him, I'm hoping the after affects aren't bad. I've read it takes a couple of days before they start. He's a strong person, I told him he needs to eat but he thinks he can maintain his weight. I will update after we see how all this goes. I hate to see one of my kids hurting, he took his wife's death really hard. Thank you for asking.
I did the chemo/radiation route and will have my esophagectomy on 4-1-25. Other than fatigue, no side effects.
He has 6 weeks of this therapy. I hope it just affect him with just fatigue.
Praying your surgery goes well
