Update on post Evenity treatment

Posted by neesie0159 @neesie0159, Jul 31 7:35am

I finished a year of Evenity in June 2024. I started Prolia the end of August. I would have started sooner except that I moved and had to find a new provider, had delays with them getting prior authorization for the Prolia ( I had to call daily for over a week to get them to finally take care of it). I have had 2 injections so far. Evenity had amazing results for my spine (-4.6 to -3.0) and slight gains in my hips. My endo said Prolia could potentially give me further gains and reduce fracture risk. Tuesday I had a DEXA scan, just over a year from my last. I was really hoping for more improvement in my spine, as I have had 5 mild fractures over the years. Very disappointed that it’s now -3.2, so went in the wrong direction there. My hip scores did improve and are now osteopenia, and my fracture risk lowered by one digit. I’m wondering if Evenity is a one time thing or can be done again. My copays were outrageously expensive but I’m applying for financial aid and would do Evenity again if I could.

My Dr wants me to consider Evenity. I am also approaching a hip replacement. Has anyone had this operation while taking Evenity?

@drummergirl I'm just curious if you found anyone who is in the same position. I am scheduled for hip replacement in a few months and just started evenity. Did you move forward with THR

@vsayers
Had it on Tuesday. No cement and collared stem.
Thigh bone was deemed ok, but he does not want me doing much other than 1500 steps max/day. Wants to be sure that stem has started to knit into bone. 2 weeks on walker and 2 on cane is what he has prescribed.
Had to stop Fosomax as I have a lot of drugs that make my stomach unsettled.
When healed, I may consider Tymlos. This was my second and I found that I had to raise bone issues. Neither of my surgeons did. Good luck with the THR.

thank you. Mine said he would use cement but I'll have to look up collared stem since he didn't mention that. Good luck on your healing journey!!!

Wondering if anyone has been prescribed 3 weeks of an antibiotic after hip replacement surgery? This is part of my drug regimen and seems like a lot. This is not a revision and I have no infection concerns. What is typical?

@vsayers apparently, if there are bone issues a collar is a good thing to use in the minds of some Doctors. A lot of them use this type anyway from my readings.
