Update and question
I was diagnosed Gleason 9 last week and negative result of PMSA PET scan received this morning. No abnormalities seen in prostate area or distant metastases. No seminal vesicle involvement, swelling of pelvic lymph nodes, or any activity beyond the prostate.
Thank you for all the encouragement from my previous post! I know this is a journey I'll always be on and so appreciate the brotherhood of this group.
I have an appointment with Northern Colorado Urologist this afternoon and another with Mayo in Rochester next Tuesday. I'm reading Dr. Walsh's book to help take this next step.
Anybody have advice on how to take this next step, questions to ask, etc?

Is there a Mayo in NY?
I know they have centers in Rochester Mn, Phoenix AZ, and Jacksonville Fl. I think I just read somewhere they have a center in London.
@jc76 I've never been, I just equated Rochester with NY 😂

1 ReactionHi everybody , i had prostate cancer with a gleason 3+4=4+3=7 . I had a choice of radiotherapy or have the prostate Removed . I chose to have the prostate removal . Now i am into my 3rd Year maintaining PSA test . After my procedure i had a PSA reading of O.01 followed up 6 months PSA same 0.01 after 12 month was 0.02 a further 6months was 0.07 . My latest PSA results now as of November 2025 are 0.18 so there has been a shift in my PSA . Will be discussing my options about the results on the 24 th 11 , will also be asking for another 3 monthly PSA blood test just to check if it’s stable or up higher . So will be interesting what the outcome for me to do next from Urologist. Everyone good luck with you health . Eat healthy foods drink plenty of water . cheers ken

Hi Dave,
So you had your surgery last month ? How many nights were you in the hospital ? How was the two weeks after surgery ? Was the recovery tough or easier than you thought ?
Thanks
@survivor5280 I made the same mistake when I first heard of Mayo. I hadn't realised Minnesota had its own Rochester. 🙂

I stayed one night after the surgery. I wasn't in much pain, but I was on IV and pain meds. Walked the hall once in the morning with the nurse. Once home, the catheter didn't hurt, it is just uncomfortable and necessary to go slow and be very aware of how you are moving. I was surprised there was not a lot of heavier pain. A few times of sharp pains at the prostate surgery site. I followed all of the post-surgery directions. No pain in the abdomen at the incision sites. I kept up on the Tylenol and the laxatives, as BMs are not returned to normal yet. Walked the house a bit every hour. Never needed the prescribed pain meds. Catheter was annoying. Careful with everything. In and out of the shower. Sleep on your back. Changing night to day. Eating a meal while peeing in a bag was certainly something I never thought I would be doing. Had a scare where I thought I had an infection, but it passed. I kept the line, connections, and bags clean with alcohol wipes. Don't be surprised if you see blood or material in the catheter tube or urine.
The worst part for me was the catheter. The two weeks went fairly quickly and I was in less pain than I thought I would have. My wife and I were always joking about the catheter. I think attitude and humor helped a lot. My brother even got in the act. Said if it would make me feel better, he would wear a sandwich bag and pee while he ate his pancakes. That is to say, supportive folks help a lot. Catheter removal was painless. Post catheter leakage is discouraging, annoying, and expected. There is still some discomfort at surgery site and along the urethra. I am already seeing improvement. That said, everyone experiences all of this differently, as you see from other posts. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. Dave

Not being a person familiar with NY I just thought wow a Mayo in NY did not know NY had one unaware of.
I did not know Mayo was in England (I think London) but saw it listed when researching something.
Mayo Rochester is the original Mayo and is huge. I say that but Mayo Jacksonville is catching up. When I first when to Mayo Jacksionville in 2006 had one building and no hospital. Now a huge hospital and dozens and dozens of buildings and the campus takes up hundreds and hundres acres of land.
It is quite impressive place. It is beautiful with lakes, water fountains, walking trails, and inside you get people playing instruments, lobby areas, conference rooms, several restaurants and so many buildings and specialities it would take several pages to list them.
Were catching up Rochester!

Almost everybody spends one night in the hospital after prostate cancer surgery. If you have a Long distance to travel after it, then you might stay longer.
Four days after surgery, I went to 3 clients offices and worked on computer problems, Four days later I was working full-time. I had the catheter bag attached to my ankle and could empty it if it got full. They didn’t remove the catheter for two weeks. The pain was not very bad and all I needed was Tylenol once I got home the second day. I was 62 so recovery is a lot quicker when you’re younger.
