Upcoming consultation with Breast surgeon: What questions to ask?

Posted by mygoodgirls @mygoodgirls, Mar 10 7:00pm

I have IDC (ER+ HER2-) grade 2 with 5mm tumor. I am meeting with the surgeon early next week for consultation. The appointment is supposed to last for about an hour. What questions should I ask or how should I prepare for the consultation? What should I expect? I feel like a deer in the headlights...

Talking to my oncologist I asked him best surgery for my type of cancer. I also asked about reocurrence percentage for each procedure.
My tumor was large and near chest wall, he recommended masectomy, which I did. I am almost to my 5 year mark. I am grateful and glad I had the masectomy in my case. My cancer was a rare TNBC Lobular.
Ask alot of questions to help make your decision.

Sending hugs.

I didn't thoroughly read all of the other comments so forgive me if I am repeating what someone has already said. Do bring someone with you to your appointments. You may not "hear" everything that is said. Also, support during your appointments is nice. Do write things down. Keep a note book of your journey. Best of luck to you.
