Upcoming biopsy

Posted by audreekylee06 @audreekylee06, Jul 9, 2023

Hello
I turned 40 so my first mammogram was scheduled. It showed a 9 mm mass in the right breast . They scheduled a second mammogram and ultrasound. I have dense breast so the mammogram still showed something but it’s undetermined. The ultrasound showed nothing so that scheduled me a biopsy. It’s a mammogram type biopsy with a needle. How painful is it ? and I really nervous about cancer

I have very dense breasts too. I had an ultrasound last week after a mammogram because I’d been feeling strange pains for a month in my left breast. The ultrasound showed suspicious looking tissue so they did a core biopsy (big hollow needle). The radiologist gave me 5 injections of Lidocaine to deaden my breast, and I just felt the first one-tiny prick. My breast was totally numb so I didn’t feel anything when she put the core needle in to remove 4 tissue samples. I’m still very sore now but getting better. They found invasive ductal carcinoma so I’m glad they did the biopsy. I had DCIS 12 years ago in the same breast. Hopefully, your biopsy may show nothing.

Did you take hormone therapy after DCIS 12 yrs ago?

REPLY

I am 53 and just daignosed with DCIS with invasion.

My nerves and fear of biopsy were worse than the actual procedure. Dr. Was nice and nurse. No pain for me at all.
🙏😌
4 to 6 mm found on mammogram and then ultrasound.
Will need MRI usually a week or so after biopsy. FYI

The needle breast biopsies are not bad at all. I've had 3 now and had no pain and a compassionate staff each time. They numb the area first. Prayers you'll receive good news!

They wanted me to take tamoxifen, but I decided to take Evista since that would have fewer chances of clotting and it would help me with my osteoporosis. The doctor told me I couldn’t be his patient anymore. I didn’t fit the protocol for his research studies. Fortunately the radiation oncologist said he’d continue to see me.

I didnt know there was another option. Evista?
I guess that isnt a endocrine therapy?
I am permenopuasal so I think tamoxifen is my only option but I don’t want to take it.

It's probably not offered as an option since tamoxifen is the main drug in studies, but my husband found a study where it was compared with tamoxifen and found as reliable. My oncologist just uses tamoxifen for his patients and his research reports.
I am post-menopausal and don't want to take tamoxifen but may have no choice at this point since I now have IDC and not just DCIS. I see an oncologist on July 31st at MD Anderson- not the same one I saw before.

Here is what I found online for Evista:
"Evista (chemical name: raloxifene) is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) used to reduce the of hormone receptor-positive breast cancer in women with a higher-than-average risk of the disease. Evista also is used to treat osteoporosis."
