Unwell after gastric illness

Interesting...sort of had the same thing. Had a delayed reaction to a medication and had a horrible rash. Had been slowing tapering down on prednisone and was at 3mg and doing really well (it's taken a year to get to this point). Dermatology put me on 50mg of prednisone with a quick taper down. Solved the rash/itching problem but my PMR flared up. I've tried to stay on a low dose, but have gone back up to 10mg. Will start the slow tapering down. And all my inflammation markers have almost tripled. I have been told PMR is hard to diagnose. I believe it is has some of the symptoms of fibromyalgia (which was my first diagnosis). My Rheumatologist has me doing a very slow taper going down 1mg every 3-4 weeks.

@spainishlady, a few members like @tsc @eospain and @chefj have mentioned that prednisone can be hard on the stomach, which may be why your doctor is considering the gastric issues to be caused by the medication rather than a flare.

If the diagnosis of PMR is being reconsidered, what condition does your doctor suspect that you have or is testing for?

Hi @spanishlady, you said you had a dreadful bout of food poisoning. Do you have any idea what it was? I'm wondering if you could have been left with a lingering infection from the food poisoning. Did anyone look into this? Is a consult with an infectious disease specialist possible for you? With PMR did you have severe pain and stiffness in your muscles and joints? With the discontinuation of prednisone have those symptoms returned? I hope you can get to the bottom of this.
