How do you control uncontrollable Burping and Belching?
Anyone experiencing uncontrollable burping and/or belching? This seem to be a rear condition that no GI exam air specialist has been able to find a cause and subsequently a solution. Any help from someone with the experience would be greatly appreciated.

Get tested for fructose malabsorption, lactose intolerance, and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth.
I have had intense (at times) belching over last 3-4 years. Stopped c-pap, no change; one doc wanted to take out gall bladder but others said not problem; tried to determine if certain foods or medicines might be cause--no change. I now think it is due to SIBO even tho I didn't test positive for it.. makes sense that it would be SIBO since I have had small intestine resection with removal of ileocecal valve. I know how miserable this can be. Wish you the best!
Thanks drpepper. I have already been tested for SIIBO and cleared. You are right, it’s miserable and there seem to be no relief!
I had horrible burping and belching because of fructose malabsorption and SIBO. Went up to Mayo, and they diagnosed it and gave me a few tips:
Don't drink out of a straw, and don't drink out of a bottle because you ingest a lot of air both ways. It didn't solve the problem totally by any means, but it sure helped. Now in the car I use a straight sided canning jar with a plastic lid. If you have trouble getting the gas up, you can swallow a bit of air to "meet" it and often it all will come up. I've also discovered that drinking a swallow of water will often displace the gas and help it to come up.
Another thing to consider is gastroparesis. It can cause realy bad belching. Do you have bloating and belching especially after eating harder to digest foods like high fiber and red meat?
Thanks CL. I’m happy your condition was diagnosed, I have been tested for both causes you mentioned and was cleared of both. I will try some of the suggestions however. Thank you again.
No bloating, just feeling gasses. Thank you for your kind response.
Happy to help. This g.i. stuff is so complicated.
Some clarification. When you wake up in the middle of the night with gas, that is the time to use the water. Drink a swallow or 2 and you may hear some gurgling. For me that is not intolerance to the water, but rather the gas moving. You can then shift position to help get it up, and sometimes I even press on my stomach gently above the waist. I keep a cup of water next to where I sleep. Another tip; it may help to start sleeping sitting up and after several hours move to the bed and lie down. I slept sitting up for years due to the gas and am finally able to sleep lying down (still start sitting up.) Hope this helps.
