Digestive issues

Posted by bumble81 @bumble81, Apr 14, 2020

I started having digestive issues last fall. By December I was told I had bilary dyskenisa and had my gallbladder removed.
That did not fix my problems.
I sometimes have traditional heartburn but mostly I have sour stomach and stomach pain mostly middle immediately below sternum and to the left. Increases after eating. I often feel like food did not make it into my stomach. Like it's stuck down there.

I will get this weird fast quiver like spasm deep inside. I can feel it with my hand I push down and so can my husband and it goes on for hours at a time. Anyone have that before? It's very strange but something inside is not working properly. I also have postprandial hypotension and intermittent difficulty swallowing.

My blood tests show slightly elevated liver enzymes but doc said they are not dangerously high. My stool is frequently bright yellow and liquid:(

Also I cannot seem to get a straight answer but do those of you with experience with ulcers did it cause excessive burping?

So I (39 yr old female) have been struggling with unresolved digestive issues for months, did lots of tests, all negative, and tried almost every OTC and prescription medication with no improvement of symptoms. My most bothersome symptoms are: abdominal pain and cramps, excessive gas, belching and irregular bowel habit (sometimes diarrhea, sometimes constipation, rarely normal BM ).
Out of despair and lack of other options, I am thinking of trying low FODMAP diet.
I need your opinion and real life experience: does it really help with digestive symptoms ? And if so, how long does it take to start feeling better?
Are there any tips to make this diet work ?
Thanks in advance .

Dr Google comes in handy sometimes…just have to be careful where info comes from…
Glad you were able to see someone that knew things, and that you are being successful with your introductions 😁

Nutritionist affiliated with my G.I. doctor offered plan for $2000+. Not covered by insurance. I have exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, IBS. I feel I am already getting more information from this site than from the doctor. What is your experience with a nutritionist? Is that price reasonable?

I once committed to a chiropractor for a lengthy series of treatments that I could not get anywhere else. It was worth it.
But what do you get for that? How sick are you? Is nutritionist certified in your needs? It’s nice to have someone connected with your doctors office, but will you need that length of time ( I presume it’s many appointments) could you have an appointment or two to see how you like that person? Then commit.
It took me a while to get into a dieticians office, and by the time I did, like you, I had done all of the research I could get my hands on and she had nothing new to add. She agreed that the one visit was probably enough.
Is there a dietitian near you that charges by the visit? You could at least get that information to help you decide if you want to make that large commitment.
Again, maybe you need the whole of the services they offer; but I would at least ask around a bit…

Ch47. Thank you for responding. There is a dietitian locally who charges per visit. I think you had a good idea and I will probably try that. It seems all visits now are by phone or Skype. None have replied that they are actually experienced with treating EPI.

Hello everyone I have had this swallowing issues for over two years now I have list over 60 pounds because of me unable to resolve my issues. I will like to know if by me having a prolapsed rectum is that the reason why I'm having digestive issues like having a feeling of something always being stuck in my throat I burp sooooo much it's driving me crazy every time I burp it doesn't come up completely and I have to literally manually regurgitate to bring the burp up and there comes my food. I have went to several gastroenterologist and no one seems to see anything. Please help anyone with a doctor or solution.

I wish I could relate. But this is not a condition I have ever had. Perhaps go to a center of excellence, or a major teaching hospital where they will do team evaluation
Losing this much weight is definitely not normal. It is also one of the symptoms of pancreatic cancer but this may be ruled out if you have had CT scans and MRIs
Don’t give up. Be your own advocate!

Hi There:
the upper GI issues have zero to do with rectal prolapse - it is two separate things. I am not a doctor but work in the medical field and have GI issues myself so am very familiar with a lot of it. Regular GI doctors deal with "regular GI issues" i have found that they are not very helpful when it comes to the more "rare issues" and the sad thing is they don't refer you to a specialist either - you need to be your own advocate. You need to find a Center near you that specializes in "digestive disorders" - maybe a university hospital or something like that. What city/state are you in?? it is POSSIBLE, if you have difficulty swallowing - that there is something wrong with your esophagus (the tube that goes from your mouth to your stomach) and it is not contracting properly and forcing the food down into your stomach properly (as i said - i am not a doctor - but from the symptoms you mentioned IT IS POSSIBLE). Also may be something wrong with the sphincter at the top of your stomach and that is why the food is "coming back up" If it is the esophagus problem there is treatment for it - google "doctors specializing in esophageal achalasia in "the city you live in" and see if you can find someone who deals with this (if you indeed do have it) - its a start. Don't waste your time going to another regular GI doctor - i experienced the same thing - got no help from GI doctors until i went the the Center for Digestive Health and found someone who specializes in the condition i have. hope this is helpful

HERE you go - from the net. - sounds like what you are describing.

ACHALASIA:
A rare disorder making it difficult for food and liquid to pass into the stomach.
Achalasia results from damage to nerves in the food tube (esophagus), preventing the esophagus from squeezing food into the stomach. It may be caused by an abnormal immune system response.
Symptoms include a backflow of food in the throat (regurgitation), chest pain, and weight loss.
Achalasia can usually be managed with minimally invasive (endoscopic) therapy or surgery.
