Unable to find site of GI bleed with CT scan
My dad has had internal bleeding from his small intestine since November, and just had a double balloon enteroscopy that his GI doc thought would be able to fix it. Unfortunately the scope wasn’t able to get to the site of the bleed, so they sent him to get a CT scan which also did not find an active bleed site. What would be the next step to find the site to be able to stop the bleeding? He has to continually get blood transfusions so he is still losing blood somewhere.
I’m trying to figure out what questions to ask the medical team to make some progress. Thank you

Probably should have had an MRI instead of CT scan. How do they know the issue is in the small intestine?
He has had a pill cam that showed what they said was an avm in the small intestine.
My husband is going good through the exact same thing with same results. Last year he had 14 blood transfusions ove the year, now he has already had 7 in the last 3 weeks. We are just at a loss

1 ReactionHi @sharonw95, and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! Dealing with bleeding is difficult without the additional challenge of not being able to figure out where the problem is. It sounds like your husband’s transfusions are not a good solution and you are needing answers. It is good he has you by his side to walk through this with him.
I am not completely sure what your husbands problem is. You mention he is going through the exact same thing. Are you saying bleeding in general, or does he know it is in the small intestine and even knows he has an arteriovenous malformation (AVM) like @myat mentions having?
