Umbilical hernia, small hiatal hernia - how long can I go w/o surgery?

Posted by javarose @javarose, Oct 27 9:53pm

At 84 and overweight I just was diagnosed in ER by CT scan a moderate umbilical and small hiatal hernia. I was nauseous and in stomach pain, and given anti-nausea IV.
I am told to monitor my eating, poke in motion, and find a binder. How long can I go like this without surgery?

I have one as well. I will need to go back and look at my visit notes to see what wa said about it. I'm not particularly concerned about it at this time.

Hello, are you poke in motion? I wasn’t concerned for many months but hernias grow.

Not sure what poke in motion means.

Radiologist's impression is ""Stable fat-containing umbilical hernia""

Just sharing a remotely possible cause of umbilical hernias for future reference in case yours isn't resolved soon. Appendix and ovarian cancers usually present as abdominal bloating, then umbilical hernias. This is because the abdominal cavity continues to fill with a jelly-like fluid. Appendix cancer is rare but worth keeping in mind if other causes are ruled out. Hoping only the best for you.
