Ultrasound shows ovoid hypoechoic lesion : Should I get a biopsy?

Posted by sondrachristo1 @sondrachristo1, Dec 17, 2025

I recently had a breast ultrasound. My mammograms have always shown I have dense breasts and approximately every 2 years I do the follow up ultrasound.
For the first time the ultrasound showed an ovoid hypoechoic lesion in my right breast that is 4 cm from the nipple. Its size is 5x3x4 mm. No internal flow. No suspicious solid appearing right breast lesion is demonstrated.
The radiologist rated this as BIRADS 3 possibly benign and suggests a 6 month recall.
My left breast was clear.
My doctor said if there is any change in the 6 months, a biopsy will be recommended.
Is this normal procedure with these findings? I’m wondering why they don’t just do the biopsy now to eliminate the stress and worry I will have over the next 6 months! On the other hand I don’t want to jump the gun and get testing that may cause unnecessary outcomes.
I’ve been dealing with other health issues during the past several years, but this is something I never expected. I’ve only just now started researching this and trying to figure out my options, hoping to get some thoughts from those that have dealt with or are dealing with this situation.
Thanks!

hi Sondra,
I have heterogenous dense breasts. Have been getting mammogram and ultrasound together since 2018 for that reason. I have hypoechoic lesions also without internal flow. They have been there for the last 3 mamm/ultrasound. This yrs mamm and ultrasound they found some microcalcifications that they needed to reexamine. Before I left, they asked me to let them take extra pics of my right breast and then, decided I need a biopsy. I wish you the best of luck take care of yourself. Sending hugs to you.

Thank you Wende for your reply.
When are you having your biopsy? It’s all so very scary.
I have other health issues that I’m dealing with, and I feel like this is going to be the one that pushes me over the edge.
I called my gynecologist and asked her to recommend a breast surgeon so that I can get a second opinion. The idea of waiting 6 months to see what happens, is just more than I can take right now.
Thanks again for your kind reply.
